Social Inclusion Week & Paul Harris Fellows

On Friday 27 November, as part of Social Inclusion Week, the Rotary Club of Fairy Meadow hosted a morning tea for all the volunteers at The Denny Foundation HQ at Lake Illawarra.

President Jenny Godin thanked around 35-40 volunteers for all their efforts recognising that none of the myriad of programmes run by TDF would be possible without their help. Usually morning tea is taken in shifts at TDF so it is usually impossible for all the volunteers to get together at the same time.

In front of all these volunteers President Jenny presented Paul Harris Fellow awards to both John Purcell and Margaret Purcell in recognition of their efforts, over many years, to offer assistance to our local community members who are marginalised or homeless. Due to other commitments John Purcell was unable to attend the surprise presentation however Margaret accepted his award on his behalf.

Members of the Rotary Club of Fairy Meadow congratulate John and Margaret Purcell on their achievements.

The Paul Harris Fellow is named for Paul Harris who founded Rotary in 1905 along with three other business associates in Chicago.

Part of President Jenny's speech read "John Purcell and Margaret Purcell you were selected unanimously by the Board members to receive this recognition because The Rotary Club of Fairy Meadow believes that your lives exemplify the humanitarian objectives of The Rotary Foundation. We thank you for demonstrating in your life and vocation a commitment to helping persons in need especially those who are marginalised or homeless".

We would like to acknowledge and thank Barbara Burgis, a volunteer at TDF, for preparing all the food and to Hannah of Bean Addiction for bringing her mobile coffee van and providing coffee for everyone.
